-Are you
satisfied with your exchange, and would you recommend others to do the same?
I loved my
time in Spain. It was a unique experience of completing an entire other masters
program within my existing program at NMBU. We were 40 students mostly from
South America studying in an intensive agroecology course for a semester.
We had class 5 days a week from 9-3 pm and sometimes in the afternoon from
5-9pm. Professors visited from all over the world to teach, who were very
highly regarded within their fields. We took various class trips to meet with
farmers around Spain and get to know different agricultural initiatives. The 40
students in the program were very close and while living in the small village
of Baeza we became a large family of friends. We are now connected throughout
the work and supporting each other in our different projects within
agroecology.
-Was it
difficult to get the courses you wanted at the host university?
No this was
not the case, because we all took the same courses.
-Did you get
all of the courses approved when back at NMBU?
I believe
so.
-Are you
satisfied with the academic quality at the host university?
Yes, I felt
very intellectually stimulated and enjoyed the rigor of the program.
-How
beneficial was the Erasmus grant?
The ERASMUS
grant offered a lot of support while I was there. It helped covered my course
fees, housing, transportation, and food. This exchange would not have been
possible without the ERASMUS grant.
-Did you
obtain what you wanted by going on exchange?
Yes, I felt
like the program in Spain truly balanced out my educational experience in
agroecology. It was wonderful to have perspectives from professors outside of
Europe that could offer something different then the Western paradigm of
science. I greatly enjoyed connecting with my professors and one of them is now
even the advisor to my thesis. I also felt like the Spanish program was able to
offer a much more critical perspective of agroeoclogy rooted in social justice,
and even offered a course in ecofeminism and gender within agroecology.
