Are you satisfied with your
exchange, and would you recommend others to do the same?
This
exchange has brought me some mixed feelings. I have enjoyed living so close to
the mountains; Lyon has several mountain areas (including the Alps) in its
proximity. I managed to explore the city a bit as well, I’ve been to a bouchon
for example where they serve traditional Lyonnaise food. The workload of the
university ISARA was quite high however, and I spent quite some energy and time
in the first months to get settled. Perhaps a full year of exchange is better
than 4 months so you do not spend half of your time abroad getting settled!
Was it difficult to get the
courses you wanted at the host university?
I could
basically only follow one minor (5 modules/courses) that fit into my program,
so I could not really chose anything. It was kind of expected to take all the 5
modules, total worth 30 EC.
Did you get all of the
courses approved when back at NMBU?
Not yet,
but I’m certain they will be, because previous students have taken exactly the
same courses as me.
Are you satisfied with the
academic quality at the host university?
In
general yes. However, there were a lot of guest lecturers and not all of them
were very clear.
How beneficial was the
Erasmus grant?
The
Erasmus grant was very beneficial. Without it, it would probably be a lot
harder for me to go on exchange. Because if you want to explore the country you
are visiting you will not have time to work and earn money as well.
Did you obtain what you
wanted by going on exchange?
I improved my
French a little bit but not as much as I hoped. I explored the French culture
to a certain extent as well, but I’d like to go back to dive deeper into it.
All in all I think 3,5 months is a little bit short for an exchange and I would
recommend to go longer.
