Hi everyone!
My name is Celeste
Cabrera and this academic year I had the pleasure to be a guest student at the
University of East Anglia (UEA) in the lovely little town of Norwich (just 1
1/2 hours north London by train), UK. I decided to spend my third and last year
of uni at UEA because as an already international student myself I knew that in
1 semester I was not going to experience the full “Erasmus life”. Back at NMBU
I was enrolled in the program of International Environment and Development
Studies at Noragric faculty and I knew that UEA was known to have an
excellent faculty for this field.
In terms of the attention to the students’ needs, services and facilities, UEA has been an excellent host university. If you are scared of missing all the quirky societies at NMBU, get ready for the extraordinary active social life of UEA. From cooking to latin dance, wine and cheese societies apart of all the sport clubs, there will definitely be something that suits you. Norwich is also a magic city filled with worth-discovering beautiful little cafes, ancient chaples (lotssss of them), green natural sites, cultural events as well as typical English pubs. In fact, people say that in Norwich there is a pub for everyday of the year.
In terms of studies, the university is composed of a wide array of faculties (Medicine, Arts, Languages, International Development, Environmental Sciences, Business, Law…). Regarding my studies, as mentioned before UEA’s faculty of International Development is specifically well-known for the high-quality education which allowed me to delve into new topics such as Education, Politics, Latin American development, Natural resources management, climate change and even languages. The modules were normally divided in lectures and interactive seminars where students could engage in interesting debates or ask questions to the professors.
When it comes to the
facilities on Campus, at any time of day or week one could visit the 5 floor
Library to borrow any book or study at either the study halls or individual
rooms that have an excellent view of the lake. Another great incentive to visit
the Campus is the Saintsbury museum, one of the most renowned museums in the UK
that owns master pieces of artist such as Francis Bacon, Picasso or Monet. And this
amusing experience for free.
Another important
aspect worth mentioning is the existence of a highly professional Career Center
that is open to all students even after finishing your studies at UEA. The
super friendly and cheerful staff will try to guide you through the process of finding
internships, jobs, contacts, building CVs or Cover letters etc.
Are you satisfied with your exchange, and would you recommend others to do the same?
DEFINITELY
Was it
difficult to get the courses you wanted at the host university?
No, UEA
offers a wide array of very interesting modules in almost any field
Did you
get all of the courses approved when back at NMBU?
YES
Are you
satisfied with the academic quality at the host university?
Both the
quality of the education as well as the relation university-student was
outstanding.
How
beneficial was the Erasmus grant?
Even
though the cost of living in the UK is not as high as the one in Norway, it is
always of great help to get an extra money to cover the living expenses.
Did you obtain what you wanted by going on exchange?I definitely did. I found great friends, discovered a lovely place that became my home for a year, challenged myself to live in a different country and adapt to new customs, learnt to accept the grey English weather and closed a beautiful chapter of my life.
So, I definitely recommend you choose UEA and Norwich as a possible candidate to go on exchange it will most likely live up to your expectations.
